Timbalero was formed by Richard Martinez Jr in 2003. Richard has been playing music since the late 1960's, and has played with some well known musicans in the bay area, such as: Pete Escovedo; the late great piano player Carlos Federico; The Juan Escovedo Band, the late Rico Reyes (formely with Carlos Santana), and has recorded with recording artist: The Kool Katz band; Mario Flores Latin Jazz Group; Cuba's great precussionist Carlos Cato; and piano player Gustavo Ramierz, just to name a few artists.

At the local level Timbalero has played at the Fat Cats, Seasons, Jacobs, Gallettos, Club 21 in Sacramento, The Cigar Bar in San Francisco, Starline Club in Fresno and is currently playing at the Rumba Room at the Double Tree Hotel in Modesto.
